Pirate Nation,
Please remember that Chilton ISD was already closed Monday, February 15, 2021. Based upon the forecast, we will likely extend the closure through Wednesday February 17, 2021. Please stay tuned to the district website Live Feed section, the Chilton ISD Facebook page, or Chilton ISD Mobile App for continued communication. Please stay warm and safe. Our thoughts and prayers are with all essential workers required to brave these conditions to serve the needs of others.

Pirate Nation,
The forecast for next week is looking pretty dismal. Beginning Saturday night, we will begin to see increased chances of precipitation with sub-freezing temperatures through Thursday. We are currently closed on Monday, February 15, 2021 in observance of President's Day. However, I must let you know, that it is very likely that we will be out of school through Thursday given the current forecast.
Initially, we were going to have elementary parents and teachers come to the school to prepare for a week of virtual instruction. However, I am wary of having parents and teachers travel this afternoon and tomorrow to get devices and plan for instruction. When weighing the efficacy of virtual instruction against the risk of having teachers and families travel to the school to prepare, I have decided to simply adjust our school calendar and keep everyone home and safe. Please understand that if the forecast changes, we want our students back in school at the earliest and safest opportunity. I do understand that this is an inconvenience and that there is no good solution. However, at this point, I am choosing to err on the side of safety for all connected to Pirate Nation.
Should we need to close, we can ensure that we meet state requirements regarding operational minutes by changing March 19, 2021 to a full day instead of a half-day. Similarly, May 26 and 27 will become full days instead of half-days. With a solution that simple, I don't think it worth risking safety to have elementary parents and students pick up devices.
As always, thanks Pirate Nation for your understanding and flexibility. There is no other place I'd rather be.

Good Evening Pirate Nation. As we continue to monitor weather conditions, it has become evident that temperatures will remain below freezing through at least midday tomorrow. With the amount of precipitation on the ground and at the recommendation of local law enforcement agencies, the Chilton ISD will close tomorrow. We apologize for the inconvenience. However, we deem it too dangerous to have our staff, students, and parents risk travel in these hazardous conditions.

Good Evening Pirate Nation. We will be delayed two hours on Friday, February 12, 2021. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. Elementary parents, please drop students at the front entrance tomorrow instead of the normal drop-off line in the rear. Thanks, again, Pirate Nation for your flexibility and understanding.

All after school activities are cancelled for this afternoon.

Pirate Nation,
At this time, we are not dismissing early. Forecasts show that precipitation is at 100% now and that temperatures are below freezing. Thus, I deem it too dangerous to put our buses and parents on the road, as of now, for a mandatory dismissal. At our regular 4:00 p.m. dismissal, precipitation decreases and temperatures begin to climb above freezing. At this point, I do realize that there is no solution that will satisfy everyone. For that matter, parents do have the option of picking their children up early if they choose. However, we will maintain our dismissal time and run buses when temperatures are above freezing and precipitation chances decrease. Thanks for your understanding and flexibility.

Pirate Nation,
In an abundance of caution, the Chilton ISD will be on a two-hour delay tomorrow. Buses will run two hours later and school doors will open at 9:30 a.m. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.

Providing an excellent education for students is a challenge that requires dedication and creativity, especially during this time of crisis. This past year has required an unusual combination of those two things from students, teachers, district staff, and our Board of Trustees. Unexpected circumstances have required adjustments and adaptability, problem solving, teamwork, and leadership.
Navigating through unfamiliar waters became a daily task. The pandemic has presented monumental challenges, and a steady hand on the rudder has been absolutely necessary for the Pirate ship to continue sailing. Our district’s Board of Trustees has provided that steady leadership for Pirate Nation. Our Trustees came through when we needed them most this year, charting a course that protected our most vulnerable, while ensuring that academic progress could continue for all students.
Board service is a volunteer effort. It is a critically important job that requires navigating an election and required training. It is a responsibility that takes time and careful decision-making. Our school board members are volunteers who shoulder critical responsibilities and often make difficult choices for our district. Their goal is always focused on the future success of our students. Serving as a link between the community and classroom, school board members are elected to establish the policies that provide the framework for public schools.
School Board members sit through meetings, read detailed reports, listen to parents’ concerns, and engage in the hard work to ensure student success. Pirate Nation benefits from their vigilance and dedication to the community. Each January, we pause in our regular activities to say thank you to these dedicated volunteers. We appreciate their generous sharing of time and energy on behalf of our children and our communities. Join the Chilton ISD in celebrating School Board Recognition Month in January by expressing your support and gratitude to our School Board members.
