Chilton ISD Alert Status: Level 1 (March 31, 2020)

Pirate Nation,

In accordance with the Executive Order issued by the governor, the Chilton ISD will remain closed until May 4, 2020.  Though we have no reported cases within the Chilton ISD community, we do understand that cases in neighboring counties are increasing.  Though we will continue with our current learning plan option, when considering national data and COVID-19 prediction trends, it is necessary for us to take a few additional precautions to ensure the safety of our students and staff.  Please note the following additional restrictions taken within the Chilton ISD:

  • Beginning Friday, April 3, 2020 at 3:00 p.m., all Chilton ISD facilities will be closed for access until Friday, April 17, 2020.  Essential operations activities (child nutrition, custodial services, and administrative offices) will continue to function between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. ONLY.  All areas following these times will be dedicated to sanitation.
  • All packet distribution for the week of April 6, 2020 will occur at the Chilton ISD.  Packet distribution and pick-up will occur from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2020.  All distribution will occur in the main parking lot near the main entrance to the high school.  In an effort to more closely comply with social distancing requirements, office staff will come to your car and provide instructions for gathering your assignments.  For those students completing assignments via internet, all assignments will be posted on Monday, April 6, 2020.
  • Because we are dealing with paper distribution, we ask that if you are ill or in an active quarantine that you please refrain from coming to the campus or delivering hard copies to campus until your quarantine period has concluded.
  • There will be no hard copy distribution during the week of April 13, 2020.  All enrichment and review assignments will be posted online.  Though teachers will continue with Zoom sessions and virtual office hours, these times will be focused on providing feedback to parents and helping struggling students move toward success for the 5th grading cycle.

Learning Plans

One of the means of ensuring that we will not have to make up days as a result of this closure involves the district extending learning opportunities during this closure.  As a district, we will extend plans that involve high technology usage and those that involve little or no technology usage.  Learning plans will be designed and disseminated for core content areas initially.  As a rule, we are planning for learning activities to require the following time constraints:

If you have concerns regarding distribution of materials, please contact the campus principal via email.  For questions regarding specific assignments, please contact the teacher of record during the posted office hours.

Feeding Opportunities

The Chilton ISD Child Nutrition Department will continue to serve students within the community.  Though we understand that necessary precautions must be taken to limit the spread of disease, we also understand that it is essential to ensure that every child in our community has access to healthy and nutritional meals.  For that matter, the Child Nutrition Department will serve during the following times:

  • Breakfast and Lunch Meal:  11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

All meals will be packaged to go in the district cafeteria.

Visitor Procedures

Upon reopening, the Chilton ISD will implement new procedures for any visitors to the district.  All visitors entering Chilton ISD facilities will be required to sanitize hands.  Additionally, temperatures will be taken by district staff to ensure that the visitor is not running a fever.  Any and all persons refusing to comply with temperature screenings will be refused entry into Chilton ISD facilities.  Additionally, we recommend that all visitors contact Chilton ISD prior to visiting to determine the Alert Level for the district and whether non-essential personnel are being allowed access to district facilities.  In the coming days, the district will post a google document that ascertains travel patterns and symptom presence within students and staff members.  This document will help district officials to make final determinations regarding district closure and/or exclusion from district events.

While we are disappointed that we won’t be able to return until May 4, 2020, we are hopeful that our additional restrictions will allow for the safe return of students and staff on May 4, 2020.  Again, this situation presents an unusual challenge for all Chilton ISD stakeholders.  However, challenges often create the best opportunities for learning and growth.  Thank you for your cooperation and flexibility during this unprecedented season in the Chilton ISD.

Per Aspera Ad Astra,

Brandon K. Hubbard, Superintendent of Schools
