Chilton ISD School Closure

March 14, 2020

Chilton ISD Alert Status: Level 1 (March 14, 2020)

 Pirate Nation,

Out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety and well-being of our students and families, we have made the proactive decision to extend closure through Friday, March 20, 2020.  Students should plan to return on Monday, March 23, 2020.  Even though we are extending campus closure, we cannot discontinue learning and student development.  Though this situation presents a challenge to the Chilton ISD, I am certain that our institution will become stronger as a result of this situation.

Learning Plans

One of the means of ensuring that we will not have to make up days as a result of this closure involves the district extending learning opportunities during this closure.  As a district, we will extend plans that involve high technology usage and those that involve little or no technology usage.  Learning plans will be designed and disseminated for core content areas initially.  As a rule, we are planning for learning activities to require the following time constraints:

All assignments will be posted to the district website and social media pages by Monday, March 16, 2020 at 11:30 a.m.  Additionally, those wishing to have hard copies can pick them up from the cafeteria during the lunch feeding time on Monday, March 16, 2020.  Any questions concerning assignments should emailed directly to the teacher of record.

Feeding Opportunities

The Chilton ISD Child Nutrition Department will be open to serve students within the community.  Though we understand that necessary precautions must be taken to limit the spread of disease, we also understand that it is essential to ensure that every child in our community has access to healthy and nutritional meals.  For that matter, the Child Nutrition Department will serve during the following times:

  • Breakfast: 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
  • Lunch:  11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

All meals will be packaged to go in the district cafeteria.  Please understand that all individuals entering the building to pick up breakfast and/or lunch will be required to sanitize hands prior to entering the district cafeteria.  No students will be allowed to eat in the district cafeteria.

Visitor Procedures

Beginning Monday, March 23, 2020, the Chilton ISD will implement new procedures for any visitors to the district.  All visitors entering Chilton ISD facilities will be required to sanitize hands.  Additionally, temperatures will be taken by district staff to ensure that the visitor is not running a fever.  Any and all persons refusing to comply with temperature screenings will be refused entry into Chilton ISD facilities.  Additionally, we recommend that all visitors contact Chilton ISD prior to visiting to determine the Alert Level for the district and whether non-essential personnel are being allowed access to district facilities.  In the coming days, the district will post a google document that ascertains travel patterns and symptom presence within students and staff members.  This document will help district officials to make final determinations regarding district closure and/or exclusion from district events.

During this time, district leadership will work to refine procedures that will allow our students and staff to return as quickly as possible while ensuring the safety of all involved.  Again, this situation presents an unusual challenge for all Chilton ISD stakeholders.  However, challenges often create the best opportunities for learning and growth.  Thank you for your cooperation and flexibility during this unprecedented season in the Chilton ISD.

Brandon K. Hubbard, Superintendent of Schools
